Keeping the next generation of trains on track
The Swansea Maliphant site comprised a combination of operational, disused and derelict sidings. This project involved redeveloping the entire site to create a state-of-the-art depot and stabling for a new fleet of Hitachi trains.
We were asked to provide an MEP package worth £6.2m, installing the complex services demanded by this specialist train care facility. Part of the job involved working on the train servicing spines, where lengths of concrete track slab were connected to effluent, water and fuel pumping facilities together with electrical ‘shore supplies’, automatic sand transportation and delivery, lighting and drainage.
This new depot is now making train travel a better experience for many more of the UK’s passengers.
