Stepping up to fight the threat of Covid-19
Three storeys. 400 beds. 20 weeks. It seemed like a tall order, but our team worked tirelessly to help deliver this surge hospital, ensuring that patients who needed these additional beds would be able to access them. The COVID-19 hospital was designed to be HTM-compliant, with specialised ventilation for healthcare buildings. It also included a winter pressure ward to relieve the stress on acute care.
The entire £33m project was designed, built, commissioned and handed over in just 20 weeks, with no compromise on the quality of the work. Following the pandemic, we helped re-purpose half the building to create a physiotherapy unit, pre-operative assessment unit and fracture clinic. An exceptional effort in exceptional times.
“Establishing sufficient additional bed capacity across Wales is a crucial to manage the pressures on our NHS caused by the pandemic.”
