5 September 2024
The Tour de Gwent, organised by St David’s Hospice Care and sponsored by Whitehead Building Services, is the annual cycling event for everyone, taking place this year on Sunday 15 September. The event has been running since 2015, so this year is the tenth Tour de Gwent, and next year is the official 10 year anniversary!
With 6 carefully designed routes to choose from, each with their own unique features, this prestigious and long-standing sporting event offers something for cyclists of all abilities. From hard-core cyclists looking for an epic leg-burning challenge to families who’d prefer a pleasant ‘there-and-back’ along the River Usk, the Tour de Gwent really does offer something for everyone.
It’s great for spectators as well as those participating….Starting in the picturesque Roman town of Caerleon and then heading out to pass (arguably) some of the most idyllic scenery in South Wales, spectators are invited to enjoy a few hours exploring the local area or head out to a vantage point to cheer the riders along their chosen route.
The Platinum route offers a 93-mile option and the shortest option is a 4 -mile route for kids (aimed at under 10s) which is free to participate in!
The Tour de Gwent will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year and Whitehead have been the headline sponsor since 2015 when the tour began! (note there was 1 year missing due to COVID, in 2020).
You’ll have seen the Whitehead cycling jerseys around Newport and beyond, and this year’s jersey is a striking pink and grey!
Participants can opt to donate their jersey cost to St Davids Hospice, but the jerseys also prove to be very popular, and one from each year can be found adorning the walls of Whitehead head office in Newport.
“We’re really proud to be supporting the event for yet another year” commented Hayley Morton, conscience coordinator for Whitehead and keen cyclist. “We are very involved in local supporting many local sports teams and events as we feel it’s important to give back to the communities within which we operate.”
